There are those who think all kinds of things constantly.
They may question existence. They may play around
With the notion that consciousness is a façade.
Things that happen in reality they find odd.
In their ponderings answers to questions are found.
The biggest have to do with our reason to be.

What’s the purpose of living? Is it to achieve
Great success in relationship, health, and money?
Is it to worship who is said to be divine?
Is it so that we all learn to get along fine?
Is it just for the purpose of being happy?
Find something most fulfilling in which to believe.

Joy is the basis of life and it’s the reason
For existence. It’s to feel exhilaration
In each moment. Don’t take life so seriously.
Your expansion happens automatically.
You’re your best in a state of appreciation.
You came here for the fun – not for getting things done.

Life means life itself meaning it’s simply to be
And to find true alignment with who we’ve become
Through the process of living. It’s the reason why
You often find life thrilling. It’s hard to deny
Where your feelings of enthusiasm come from.
The Meaning Of Life is to live it happily.

The Neuroscience Of Mindfulness

Mindfulness is the practice of being aware
Of all the elements of the present moment
Without getting lost in the future or the past.
One can simply take in what’s perceived as contrast
And not be triggered by it. Be in the present
Where your power is. In inner peace you must care.

Mindfulness changes the neurobiology
Of fear by how the brain processes stimuli.
The brain stem and the limbic systems operate
Out of fear. They will too often try to dictate
What’s important in the moment and this is why
They will lead us right smack dab into misery.

What happens when we’re stressed is that information
Doesn’t reach the frontal cortex. It remains stuck
In that part of the brain that’s in survival mode
Constantly. And if no information is flowed
To the thinking brain then behavior runs amuck.
Mindfulness therefore is helpful to everyone.

The subcortical looping can be overcome.
Mindfulness strengthens the activation in the
Frontal cortex. If we can name the emotion
Then it’s deactivated. What will have begun
Is a process of rational activity
And the angst of the moment you will be free from.

Awakening

Practical Enlightenment

It’s the cause of most suffering, wise ones believe,
Of the mind and its habit of thinking always.
Recognizing the chatter is tricky at best.
It is just an illusion. I can become stressed
Easily by the drama, and it rarely pays.
Almost always it turns out that it will deceive.

So asleep is the ego self. It’s in a daze
That the mind has created as its main plaything.
Sometimes I really get it. I come wide awake
In sincere meditation, but if I could make
It an all the time feeling, what joy that would bring.
Can I learn how to get my consciousness to raise?

Beyond thought is Awakening to someone who
Is much bigger than I am and all that I know.
In fact, that person is everyone in essence.
From that broader perspective what e’er may commence
Will no doubt help me spiritually to grow.
I’m not there all the time, but I know what to do…

…And that is to stay focused and nearly thought free.
In a world of illusions created by such,
It can be quite a challenge. But this way is true.
Once in touch with your true self your life shines anew.
There’s no reason for me to be cold to the touch.
It is now my quest to stay awake completely.
