Spirituality

Prayerful Setting

Spirituality is the state, quality,
Or fact of being spiritual. It is a
Broad concept with room for many perspectives, but
Generally it includes a deep sense of what
Could be called one’s connection to all. One could say
That it’s something that comes about naturally.

It’s a sense of connection to something bigger
Than oneself, and it involves a search for meaning
In one’s life. It’s experienced by everyone
Whether we’re aware of it or not. There are none
Who are not subject to spirit intervening
At times in their life just as one might well prefer.

We are all spiritual beings having a
Human experience. To awaken is to
Become more consciously aware that this is so.
Personal attention is in wanting to know
The answers to the questions that have much to do
With one’s purpose. One can be fulfilled in this way.

“What’s the purpose of life? What happens when we die?
What is life? Who am I? Why do people exist?”

These are prime curiosities for the novice.
Meditation and prayer bring genuine bliss.
Spirituality is on what we subsist.
It has the full ability to sanctify.

A Perfect Body

In The Best Shape Possible

You are fairly good looking – not perfectly so.
Does your mirror reflection reveal what is fact?
You abhor doing exercise. That’s much to hard.
It’s not like you have plenty of lard to discard
But what people don’t say about you has impact
On the mind and the oversensitive ego.

Can you have that perfection? Can you have a shape
That is supple yet muscular without the work?
Could it be that you’re lazy? Is that an insult
That may stick in your craw and produce the result
Of your moving your body more? Demons may lurk
In the unsettled consciousness without escape.

There have been several studies done already
By science as it looks at mind over matter.
The conclusion is that visualization
Is as effective as the physical action.
Without knowing, people do it to get fatter.
And uncanny device is the human psyche.

The combining of both functions is the best way.
You resist action because without energy
You become exhausted long before you begin.
But if you’re motivated to your getting thin
You prepare for the miracle of your body.
The alignment done first is a small price to pay.

Awakening

Practical Enlightenment

It’s the cause of most suffering, wise ones believe,
Of the mind and its habit of thinking always.
Recognizing the chatter is tricky at best.
It is just an illusion. I can become stressed
Easily by the drama, and it rarely pays.
Almost always it turns out that it will deceive.

So asleep is the ego self. It’s in a daze
That the mind has created as its main plaything.
Sometimes I really get it. I come wide awake
In sincere meditation, but if I could make
It an all the time feeling, what joy that would bring.
Can I learn how to get my consciousness to raise?

Beyond thought is Awakening to someone who
Is much bigger than I am and all that I know.
In fact, that person is everyone in essence.
From that broader perspective what e’er may commence
Will no doubt help me spiritually to grow.
I’m not there all the time, but I know what to do…

…And that is to stay focused and nearly thought free.
In a world of illusions created by such,
It can be quite a challenge. But this way is true.
Once in touch with your true self your life shines anew.
There’s no reason for me to be cold to the touch.
It is now my quest to stay awake completely.

Know Thyself

The Spiritual Mirror Image

Since childhood I’ve been learning and relearning things
That others get the first time and with greater ease.
I don’t find it a problem until I’m perceived
And am judged for the way I am. Then I am peeved.
But I’ve been a fine bastard with my psychoses
And this self-observation – my ego it stings.

It’s and ongoing process. Self-discovery
Grows from learning of this world and all of its ways.
But the self that is studied is of the body
And the thing that we know as personality
Yet the more subtle essence for most of us stays
In the depths of the psyche concealed completely.

I would study myself, but just what does that mean?
I must ask myself questions that puzzle me so.
Is myself the perceiver? Or am I that who
Perceives he who’s perceiving? If I follow through
With this interrogation, what truth could I know?
…Consciousness is recursive and clearly obscene?

The mind is a fifth limb. It will grasp and hold on
To the things it perceives. I know that it’s a tool.
It itself is perceived by that which is unnamed.
The true self is a mirror wherein all is framed
In its pureness of being. I’ll take that as cool.
It’s the source of all selfhood from which life is drawn.
