It’s Not Lost

All white men are created equal. It’s Not Lost
In the language of those who came here to conquer
Or to ‘colonize.’ It’s working exactly how
It was written. The document didn’t allow
Any mention of women. They were, as it were,
Nonexistent as people. How much has it cost?

Striking is the stupidity of landing here
Thinking that you’ve reached India. What a mistake.
But no one ever talks about that. It’s okay
To treat the indigenous people in this way.
It’s Not Lost. It is written. Why not come awake
To the truth which is made to all perfectly clear?

Merciless savages are what natives were called.
Black people were seen only as sixty percent
Of a person. So only land-owning white men
Could be called “We The People.” The document, then,
Is a work of irrelevance. It’s only meant
For a certain group. Everyone should be appalled.

Should it shock us that women are still making less
Than their male counterparts? Should we not be surprised
That our prisons are filled with people of color?
Can we not see that the gap between rich and poor
Only grows? What is written, although it’s despised,
Is the foundation of this nation’s wickedness.

Immutable Advice

This is the land of plenty in so many ways
That are not paid attention to nearly enough
By enough of the people for a solution
To be had. People look upon with derision
Those severely in need. We all know life is tough
For the many. With oneself is where concern stays.

Generations of the past faced problems galore.
Some advice is well taken, but most is ignored.
Those who will carry on will have challenges too.
Global warming and homelessness are but a few
Of the issues they will face as they move toward
A world that is more peaceful than it was before.

Lasting peace is based on the concept of oneness
Of all eight billion humans. I am a person…
Not a race or a country or a continent.
The human race is all that I can represent.
Epidemics and climate change make the world one
Albeit by brute force. Will they have some success?

We are one huge community… not several
Entities independent of one another.
The illusion of separateness causes war,
And the root of all evil corrupts evermore.
A big blast of enlightenment has to occur,
And it’s up to us only to say that it shall.

Can One’s Mindset Be Changed?

“What’s the psyche of those who…?” One fills in the blank
With the offense committed. Our identities
Set us ones against others. How can this be changed?
It will go on forever because we’re deranged
In that we’re a strange animal wanting to seize
Absoluteness of sovereignty distant to rank.

What’s the mind of the suicide bomber? Who knows
But the dead then crossed over and without the choice?
Humans must fight for what they truly believe in.
Animals protect boundaries. We may begin
To look hard at the future and try to rejoice
Yet we’re still just as animals, history shows.

When my space becomes threatened, I may have to kill
But I’d rather not do it, hence the paradox
Of the human condition. Beliefs that we own
Interfere with our instincts. That’s why we are prone
To such gut wrenching hatred. Our own growth it blocks.
Any nationalism means blood has to spill.

Can we come to the wisdom to end enmity?
If there’s no room in our souls for that to take place,
Then it will translate naturally to bloodshed.
We must kill off the enemy and move ahead
Which is why some think we can’t survive as a race.
It’s always been a struggle. We’ll just have to see.

Are You Addressed?

A New Nation Conceived… but of what demon seed
That produces a mixed black and white bastard child
Who, at war with itself constantly, must act out
A superior newness… one which is about
Segregation’s revival and hate reconciled
For that part not considered a part of its breed?

That’s one hell of a question! So, let’s break it down.
Those forefathers were pissed off at England, so they
Went and stole them some new land, the old pirate’s way.
Taking on human cargo causes much dismay,
But these merry explorers took it as child’s play
To display fervent hatred for the black and brown.

Yet, it isn’t all of us who feel quite this way…
But enough of a huge chunk to make the child ill.
Would the sickness go back to England with its tail
Between where all that pissed off their fathers prevail?
Can there be a subspecies that harbors ill will
Toward a part of itself? And what price does that pay?

“…That all men are created equal…” is the gist
Of the lofty idea that set folks apart
From outdated monarchy to newfound freedom
But that cannot happen as long as there are some
Who just came for the ride and would much rather start
Bloody war in a heartbeat, as their acts insist.

Two scores and two centuries ago people were
In a funk existential and most exclusive
In their fresh new ideas and self-righteous goals.
Will our constitution be buck shot full of holes
By a parallel nation of traitors who live
For the wildness of old times that oft’ reoccur?

Black and White it boils down to… The splitting of hairs
With complex interaction is the only way
To address governmental issues as they come.
It is hard to come up with the best rule of thumb.
Everyone has their duty and role they must play
In the health of the nation’s domestic affairs.

Personalities differ in so many ways
That it’s hard for mere humans to sort it all out.
So people by the thousands were asked to answer
Many hundreds of questions by a computer.
It came up with a model to mitigate doubt
About human behavior that’s worthy of praise.

A Table Periodic for how we behave,
This enlightening Personality Model
Created thirty years ago is what’s behind
Evolution of politics. Two frames of mind
Interact but with tension. They often repel
Each other when solution is what each should crave.

Liberals are holistic. They’re entrepreneurs –
Creative innovators of freedom and flow
Across borders and mindsets. Conservatives are
Conscientious, pragmatic, and not so bizarre
As to stray too dangerously from what they know.
Discussion is the only solution that cures.

That solution’s not easy, as history shows.
But it’s not like we have a choice. Our survival
Depends on evolution as one human race.
No one way is the rightest way in every case.
Each has its unique value to benefit all.
Interdependence is how a good nation grows.
