Civilization

The Scourge Of The Planet

On its axis it spins as it orbits the sun.
Tucked away in a safe lane where life can evolve,
The earth is a unique place in this part of space.
It is well within reason to fully embrace
The magnificent order which does not involve
Fears that it may collapse before it’s all begun.

In close proximity to other planets, the
Earth is part of a system that keeps on going
At least for a few eons more and without flaw.
Scientists and philosophers ponder with awe
This machine of perfection that all is showing
To we humans who need to grow desperately.

Our fears have become many throughout history.
Things are put on the list, and then they are removed
As we find the solutions, but then there are more
Problems found. It is our fascination with war
That keeps our consciousness where it can’t be improved.
All that ever changes is methodology.

A hundred years from now, what will be on the list
Of the things most not wanted? The list we have now
Will be shortened… then lengthened. A new set of fears
We will have to propel us into new frontiers
Of unsolvable worries. We’ll manage somehow.
Our biggest issue is to learn to coexist.

My Question

Passion To Know

Some things I can’t believe. They don’t make any sense –
Like the human condition and why I exist.
Other things have some meaning when I’m feeling fine.
Enigmatic this world seems. Is it by design
That to question everything I cannot resist?
Should I not get some justice for my small expense?

Questions are left unanswered in this time and place.
Things that happen are left to the throw of the dice.
I cannot get excited about what goes on.
Certain signs of stability and truth are gone.
Why do people make the ultimate sacrifice?
I’m ashamed to be part of this sick human race.

It’s useless for me to keep my head in the sand.
Through the earth information seeps into my mind
Of the death and destruction. The utter despair
Is too much for me to say that I do not care
Because I’m not affected. Little I can find
To divert my attention. I don’t understand.

All I do know is that things are just as they are.
I’ll expend very little psychic energy
On the judgement of anything. Then I may find
That the answer is perfect for my simple mind.
It may be worth my best while to just let things be.
The next poem I write may be just as bizarre.

The Myth Of Milk And Honey

Not All That Glitters Is Gold

Stores filled with people clamoring for the best deal
As each fake Friday blackens throughout the seasons…
I must know which is symbol form that which is real.
I can only know that by the way that I feel –
Like a child in a candy world. Many reasons
I can conjure but none that the truth may reveal.

Differences exist between wealth and money.
One is purely a symbol; the other, concrete.
Confusion between these two is the cause of pain,
Suffering, and such issues that drive folks insane.
I’m a sad ‘weak in trading.’ I am in defeat
If I can’t see myself through the illusory.

Oddly complex abstractions, ideologies,
And inscrutable systems confound consciousness.
Physical is reality – the earth and trees,
And the waters and creatures partaking the breeze.
I do not believe I can be anything less
Than the earth that produced me for none to appease.

All the hills are dark shadows. Forever they flow
From one form to another. Indeed nothing stands.
God’s green earth is diaphanous. It disappears
Like the music of ages along with all fears.
My true wealth is a measure of how life expands
Through this one made of value who this world can know.

Rama Or Krishna

Contingent Dicchotomy

Every civilization throughout history
Comes to be with much cruelty for its own while
Until laws are established and all people know
That one rule book, and one only, helps all to grow
Into unified consciousness. Therefore the style
Of the first leaders chosen was harsh as can be.

Each nation had a wild west or does so right now.
They all share the same basic conditions of need.
If people make their own laws, no one lives in peace.
Conflicting are intentions that lead to increase
In behavior uncivilized. Inherent greed
Lethally derelicts human nature somehow.

But after a nation becomes sovereign and whole
Styles of leadership alter. Now there are outlaws
Instead of simply citizens intending harm.
The societal structure will sound the alarm.
Now the job is maintaining the initial cause
That the people united assumed as their goal.

The rule book becomes flexible yet remains strong
So the wise leader uses it in not in harsh ways
But with cunning and conscience to then delegate
Distribution of justice. The will to create
Harmony among all, the wise leader obeys.
The beauty of a nation is that all belong.
