Privilege

Look Of Elegance

It’s an honor to be considered one of class.
Out of eight billion people not everyone can
Be entitled and be granted immunity
From what everyone else has to go through. To be
Of a group that considers itself better than
All the others is to have one’s head up one’s ass.

What does privilege look like? The things people wear,
What they drive, where they live, how much money they make,
And a number of other things are outward signs
Of abundance. But what actually defines
Privilege is the absolute freedom to take
Full advantage of life with the utmost of care.

If a class of students is each given a ball
Then they’re told to throw the ball into a basket
At the front of the room, those who’d say it’s unfair
Are the ones at the back. Those up front, not aware
Of their essential privilege, have no regret
For the circumstance they’re in. They fret not at all.

You’re alive. Take notice of the things around you
That uplift you. You are in a class of your own
Understanding. You have the power to achieve
Anything that you want if you truly believe
In yourself. About you there is much to be known.
Be aware of your privilege in all you do.

Everything That Happens Is A Lesson

Perplexed

How do I not feel bad when bad things do take place
Like disasters and hate crimes? Do I just ignore
My emotions completely? That doesn’t seem right.
I do not have an insatiable appetite
For adverse situations, yet I would be more
Of an android if tragedy I didn’t face.

When bad things happen out there, I can either get
A good lesson from it, or I could play the role
Of the innocent victim. The choice is my own.
There’s no dark quandary into which I am thrown.
If I ponder the lesson, I will be made whole.
If the victim I do play, I will know regret.

People may do things to me. It’s how I react
To what’s done that’s the difference between being
A fully functioning person or a victim.
The latter only leads to a future that’s dim.
I may kick myself in the butt for not seeing
The big picture and from it all I can extract.

If something that has happened has made me feel bad,
Then why did it wait until I knew about it?
The fact is that I make my own self feel this way.
Bad things happen. That’s life. It’s up to me to play
Life in a way that is to my full benefit.
I may find that my teacher is my best comrade.

Pain Relief

Dealing With Resistance In The Body

All pain is resistance to the natural self.
Everyone has one that is in excellent shape,
But that self is a counterpart of your body.
If you stub your toe, the message may simply be
‘Watch your step’ because it was a narrow escape.
Sadly, the only word that rhymes with ‘self’ is ‘shelf.’

Let’s say you have an expectation that something
Will occur but it doesn’t and then you resist
The process that’s unfolding which causes you pain.
You act on it, but everything done is in vain.
The intensity of it cannot be dismissed.
You are caught in the trap of overreacting.

You are not buying into the natural flow
Of how things unfold in your life, understanding
Not that things are occurring to give you the chance
To know more about yourself, so the circumstance
Of the pain that is present is an offering
Of a wonderful opportunity to grow.

Whether your pain be physical or of the mind
Know that in it there is a magnificent clue
Regarding what is needed for your wellbeing.
Pain can sometimes help us toward better seeing
Things we do to ourselves without our meaning to.
This message is designed for all of humankind.

Get Out Of Trouble

Escaping The Rubbish

Ominous is the feeling that cripples my soul.
What may happen is dreadful. I can’t think about
Devastation, poverty, and deep emptiness.
If I’m so out of balance and crippled with stress
Over what I’ve created, there is little doubt
That I can get a grip and take back some control.

How can I shift my frequency, when in despair,
To one higher, if that is even possible?
Luckily it can be done without going mad
Through a process and promise that is ironclad.
I can save my own life if I am docible
Of the logic of wellbeing which isn’t rare.

Everything is a lesson. Each experience
Is for me a perfect opportunity to
Let myself be the best student that I can be.
I would gain some awareness of dark parts of me.
Giving up is the worst thing on earth I could do.
Nonexistence is futile and doesn’t make sense.

To say that it’s too difficult reinforces
My belief that it’s difficult. I can divest
Myself of negative thoughts about what is taught.
If I see myself in others, I won’t be caught
In the trap of hopelessness. This life is the test.
Its curriculum consists of many courses.
