Hip Pocket Philosophy

Thinking Statue

Intellectuals say simple things in hard ways
But artists say hard things in ways that are easy.
Does this have some significance to anything?
If it’s true then what manner of sense do I bring
To the world with my writing? I don’t want to be
Verbally enigmatic. But do I need praise?

If it turns out I’m needy then am I someone
Who will run from the rain yet take well to the sea?
Am I one who thinks of injustice only when
It is happening to me? What can I do then
To evolve into the person I want to be?
That I’ve erred is my life then pure retribution?

Poetry is what happens when nothing else can
In the moment. When the heart has something to say
It must say it in whatever language it speaks.
Self-expression is all that the happy heart seeks.
I can manipulate words as if it’s child’s play.
There is nothing wrong with my being my own fan.

About what matters in life I still am learning.
As a student I look up to those who are free
Of this schoolhouse and who also help me to write.
Channeling information brings me much delight.
Now It’s become my Hip Pocket Philosophy.
I trust that my desire becomes ever burning.

On Being Alone

Distant Horizon

There are two minds. One mind is always on the run
With its incessant chatter while the other mind
Remains silent. It doesn’t respond to outside
Interference, yet access is never denied
To its clarity. But we’re not often inclined
To partake of its peace as we’re getting things done.

Aloneness doesn’t mean being isolated
Having no friends and vanishing into a cave.
You can do that but you’ll take your two minds with you
And then meditate on things that you were told to
Meditate on. It’s just the way people behave
Aloneness and confinement are not related.

If you just take a moment – five seconds or so
To be quiet, everything that will disappear
In that time is what’s not real. When you’re not thinking
Everything that is lost is what you’d been linking
To your ego which operates much out of fear.
Your moments of aloneness can help you to grow.

When you consider yourself it’s all about thought.
Ninety nine percent of our life experience
Is in this world of virtual reality.
It’s an illusion of garden variety.
Is aloneness now making a whole lot more sense?
What you’ll find will astound you so give it a shot.

Cradled In Kindness

The Universal Wisdom Of Love

“So, describe a moment when you experienced
True and pure grace and you knew it”
was the request.

She was quick in responding. She knew right away
How to answer. She had wonderful things to say
About one Muslim woman and at the behest
Of the requester only truth would be dispensed.

After her horrible divorce she got away
From it all to an island in Indonesia
As she spent time recovering from depression.
There was some deep emotional work to be done
In seclusion and silence. Perhaps amnesia
May have helped to mitigate the utter dismay.

When she felt better she would each day walk around
The island. It was tiny. The village was poor.
What they fished for that day was what people would eat.
Everyday one certain Muslim woman would greet
Her by smiling and touching her heart. To endure
Existence, somewhere in the heart love must be found.

The woman in this true story got very sick
With food poisoning. For several days she could
Not take her daily walk, but the Muslim woman
Had a feeling that something was wrong. She began
To search throughout the village hoping that she would
Find the sick woman. Her caring was fantastic.

When she found this sick woman, she left then came back
With some food and fresh water. Her kindness caused her
To sob deeply as the Muslim woman cradled
Her in her arms. Nothing of her love was withheld.
She’s now her face of Islam. What did here occur?
In this story is there a whole lot to unpack?

The Story Of Your Life

Passing On Wisdom

A son once asked his father, “What is the value
Of my life?”
So, the father gave his son a stone

And said, “Go to the market. If anyone there
Asks the price of the stone, then just hold in the air
Two fingers but speak not. Do not be answer prone.”
The boy went to do as his father told him to.

There, he saw an old woman. She asked, “What’s the price
Of that stone?”
The boy quickly held up two fingers.

The old woman exclaimed, “Two dollars? Is that all
That it’s worth? Your price is most exceedingly small.”
In the boy’s mind the thought of his worth still lingers.

He went back to his father for some more advice.

The father told the son, “Go to the museum.”
So he did. There he saw am man dressed in a suit.
The man asked, “How much is that stone?” The youngster raised
His two fingers but said nothing. He was amazed
To hear the man say, “Two hundred?” Rather acute
Was the boy’s sense of where his worth is coming from.

To a precious stone store the father sent his son
Finally with the same instructions as before.
There he met an old jeweler who was excited
To see this stone. In fact, he was so delighted
That he offered two hundred thousand. So the more
You believe in your worth, the less asking is done.

Life is all about where you place yourself and how
You expect life to happen. You get to decide
What your worth is. You are not a commodity
To the people who love you. You are meant to be
In the lap of abundance. It can’t be denied
To the one who has learned to speak out and allow.

The Good Doctor

A Pillar of Society

One connected to earth’s energy is most wise
And a positive influence in people’s lives.
Her responsible nature comforts and protects.
Everyone whom she services love and respects
Her knowledge and benevolence. Each of us thrives.
Respect for Mother Nature she’ll always advise.

Keeping folk fit and healthy comes naturally
To the one who gives counsel. The warmth of her heart
Brings about inspiration to all in much need
Of a boost to the spirit. Her job is to lead.
No one can disagree that she plays well her part
In our world’s evolution. That’s easy to see.

Well-known in the community, she knows her place
Which is right at the center of all our affairs.
Striking up a good friendship with folk about town
Provides just the right medicine for one who’s down.
We appreciate greatly a doctor who cares
For the welfare of others with loving embrace.

There are some unsung heroes who like it that way.
They prefer not to be in the blinding starlight.
Rather they proceed casually and with pride
Among their local public. The Will To Provide
In the spirit of love makes one’s vision more bright.
Character is what good leaders often display.

TheMagicRealist.com

Hey there, Sam! Is that you?
We’d thought that your partner would stay ever true.
Compromised before our eyes… Entrapped within white petty lies…
Most women know that they will pull us through.
There’s only one thing that we’ve left to do.

We Gotta Get You A Woman!
It’s like nothin’ else to make you feel that you will survive.

We Gotta Get You A Woman!
We can pre-celebrate because there’s no time for waitin’.

Sammy boy, you’re the one
Who’s personified us since our fate had begun.
We can feel discontentment. We know you do too.
…Woken up from a wild night, we’re all feelin’ blue.
You done married the bitch! He done gave you the screw! So…

We Gotta Get You A Woman!
It’s like nothin’ else to give you courage to carry on.
We Gotta Get You A Woman!
Pretty soon well be votin’. Much time is worth devotin’

…To talkin’ ‘bout livin’ lives in much better ways.
Until now we’ve been caught up in malaise.
Fairly soon we will see better days.
But we’ve got to care enough that we pull this thing together

We Gotta Get You A Woman!
It’s like nothin’ else to make you feel that love is alive.

We Gotta Get You A Woman!
Leadership of a woman could well make our nation thrive.

Talkin’ ‘bout things like thick ceiling glass
That had almost been broken but for some world class
Operation that lead to the major impasse
That befalls us, a woman may well kick some ass.

We’ve got to hook you up with one who has been around.
There are plenty of good ones. Indeed, they abound.
She may show you that what has been lost can be found.
Sam, it’s time to listen to a different sound.

We Gotta Get You A Woman!
We Gotta Get You A Woman!
We Gotta Get You A Woman!

And after we do, we may live life anew.
