The Best Teacher

The Wisest Advisor

Looking back on my school years, I personally
Had a rough time because I am mentally ill.
Way back then, diagnoses were nonexistent.
The odd way that I see things will often prevent
Understanding of social cues yet I can still
Function sufficiently well in society.

You’re expecting a nice story. I’ll give you one
Not about how my troubled life eats at my heart
But about how it’s possible to overcome
Feelings of inferiority that come from
Childhood trauma of which I have made a fine art.
Misery in my old age I now see as fun.

Normal folks have ‘best teachers’ – the ones who have made
A life long positive impression upon them.
Simple words spewed without thought will alienate
As will attitudes that radiate racial hate.
The best ones are happy to deal with your problem.
Above and beyond they work. They’re on a crusade.

Early on I was told that I wasn’t the same
As the others in my class in obvious ways
And one not as apparent. It turns out to be
A most powerfully creative part of me.
It’s not like I am giving my enemies praise.
The Best Teacher teaches how to live without shame.

The Choice

The Easiest Of Decisions

Life is ripe with variety, and it’s the spice
That makes it so engaging. Digesting is fun,
Yet the mere act of choosing which things will enthrall
And consume my attention is part of it all.
I believe in a process that will get things done
In a world made abundant. Life is paradise.

Ancient teachers like Rama and Buddha were heard
In their time by the fewest. Today anyone
Can speak volumes to everyone across the globe.
The least used body part may be the frontal lobe.
Privilege of technology is the reason
That our acts can be fortunate in thought and word.

So, among all our choices, the words that are used
To convey what the soul speaks are significant.
We become the world’s teachers in ways that we speak.
Influence we may have on those minds who are weak.
Just because we are listened to, we may enchant
The behaviors of others through mindscape perused.

This platform wasn’t possible decades ago.
I’m amazed still that I have extended this reach.
I broadcast with no borders imagined or real.
I’m concerned with the way I cause people to feel.
Being responsible for the tone of my speech,
With a fresh set of choices, it’s on with the show.

Eye Of The Bull

The Endangered Organ

The bull gets a wide spectrum of rap, as it were,
And it ranges from ascot to standard scapegoat.
That we separate bulls’ feces from all the rest
Is a perfect example of how we have stressed
Ill regard for this animal. Why we emote
Using God’s name or bulls’ waste is more than a slur.

The eye of any creature is something benign
So to make it a target for general use
As the favored expression for making the mark
Comes from some place within us that seems rather dark.
When I think of compassion I find no excuse
For condoning lame idioms folk think are fine.

The collective subconscious is something quite real
And within it is all that defines who we are
As a culture and our attitudes about life.
The most absurd confections are crafted from strife.
It is shameful that some are not only bizarre
But they stick in the mind and affect how we feel.

Never on a level that is conscious to us
Does a notion discordant with natural law
Manifest. So at best I am wise to take care
That the words I express are most worthwhile to share.
I can’t make it my goal to nitpick every flaw
In the language I’m used to. Can that be a plus?

Phallusy

Ornate Provocation

Logic is ever phallic. It is of the mind.
An affirmed web of meaning for unruly speech
Is something we deem vital in making good sense.
We begin with an argument that needs defense.
We assume that attack is the fate bound to each.
So, to speak means to make war as it is defined.

Phallusy takes effect when emotions are stirred.
They contaminate logic. It then must respond
With its cold, calculating assessment of heart.
Words can hold us together or blast us apart.
I rely on the former to take me beyond
The confines of pure logic. This is much preferred.

Not a feeling I know of obeys a rule book.
Every soul needs expressing, each in its own way.
Words that spew through the phallus of logic are meant
For sustaining our battles. With verbal content,
Those who use words to bend logic have more to say.
Meaning makes its own methods to not be mistook.
