Positionality

The Part Each Plays

Positionality refers to how social
Position and power shape identities and
Access within society. Dualistic
Mental structures within the ego mind can trick
Itself into believing that it’s in command
By virtue of position and its rationale.

Positionalities include cherished values,
Beliefs, attitudes, and judgments. They are ingrained
During childhood. Reinforced by society,
They become an illusion of reality.
In order to function well, they must be maintained.
One becomes manipulated by social cues.

Positionalities provide all the juice the
Ego needs to maintain its hold and dominance
Of the mind. Race, religion, nationality,
Gender, or how one postures politically
Are examples of position and they enhance
The ego’s own agenda of needing to be.

Phenomena are not either fair or unfair,
Good or bad, right or wrong, or somewhere in-between.
We become judgmental and opinionated
Over things that can’t possibly be related
To enlightenment where the big picture is seen.
Of the ego we can only be more aware.

Helping Children

Sustaining The Future

Our experiences teach us how we’re to live.
The adult populations of this world create
The conditions for nurturing our little ones.
We can raise them like rugged cowboys with their guns
In an atmosphere toxic and fervent in hate
So they learn that it’s righteous to be aggressive.

What children are born into is of our making.
Each new generation experiences more
Of a challenge adjusting. Children under stress
Are so because the world that they know is a mess.
Where do they find the knowing to love and adore?
The answer we embellish in our awaking.

The issue of self-worth is a big one these days.
So it is most important to teach kids that they,
By the mere fact that they exist, are powerful
In creating their realities. Skip the bull
About having to struggle and toil through the day.
For each thing that they do shower them with much praise.

At times they may not be ready for the advice
That is given them. Do but the best that you can
To create an environment that will allow
For loving understanding in the here and now.
No single person is lesser or greater than
Any other. From there, it’s a roll of the dice.

Just Get In There

Don't Waste Time

I’m addicted to reality. I spend more
Time than anyone should be when talking about
Things as they are, even as they’re filled with despair.
There’s one place I need be. If I Just Get In There,
I can know my wellbeing without any doubt.
Any other way is to live life as a chore.

Feeling what’s coming up in there, I can release
Much of that which is negative and be complete.
The emotional spectrum with ease I ascend.
There is nothing more important than that I tend
To the treasure amassed that is not yet concrete.
I know that when I’m in there, my grace shall increase.

Something tells me that if I knew what I have stored
In vibrational escrow, no time would I spend
Complaining or attempting to right what is wrong.
My old ways I would lose, and I’d sing a new song.
If I just had an inkling, then I would transcend
Negativity and feel that I am adored.

Getting in there gets easier with each new day.
I get plenty of practice amid the contrast.
It causes me to try harder, and it’s worthwhile.
The fact that I can train myself does make me smile.
Defending my position is part of the past.
I’m the only one ever who gets in my way.

Pale Blue Dot

Humbled In Insignificance

In the vast utter darkness, the throat of deep space,
There’s a chalk dust eraser mark. It can be seen
From a vantage point one quarter light year away,
And the mirror’s reflection has something to say
In reply, as if answering, in its routine,
How humans are insignificant as a race.

In the dust band, and faintly, a tiny chalk dot
Sits alone unassuming and much on its own.
Everything everyone has done happened right there.
Every heartfelt emotion from joy through despair
Has been felt on that blue dot deep in a dark zone.
There they think they’re important and fear that they’re not.

In the cosmic arena, its rivers of blood,
Spilled by soldiers triumphant that they could become
Fearless masters a short while, offer little hope.
Evolution appears to be on the down slope
As our most fervent hatreds are beating the drum
Of a race war that will take all out with a thud.

This is our only planet. A home we have made
Of this thing that has birthed us and keeps us alive.
For now, migration to other worlds is obscene.
Until we can learn to keep our own noses clean,
It is best that, as one world, we learn to survive.
But perhaps we can’t do that because we’re afraid.
