Before Sleeping

Bedtime Routine

I can incubate good or bad things while I sleep.
Getting up on the wrong side of bed results from
Waking up to the harshness of an alarm clock
After dreams of unpleasantness cut short by shock
Back into hard reality. Nasty moods come
From nocturnal nurturance of crap that I keep.

Sleeping not well not only does harm to the mind.
Over time it can also affect the body.
So, it is most important that I be aware
Of some things I can do so that I best prepare
For a night of excitement and true fantasy.
To wake up feeling joyful I am so inclined.

Men perform the three ‘s’ functions when they arise.
Likewise, before it’s bedtime, a wholesome routine
Must include my not eating three hours… perhaps four…
So the digestive system can aptly restore
Itself to proper balance. It keeps the pipes clean.
To demand that they work night shift ain’t too damned wise!

Since I am mostly water, at night I should drink
Just enough that the body can do what it needs…
And a long lukewarm shower relieves certain stress
As it flushes the crud and the day’s toxic mess.
Neither mind nor the body, my true self succeeds
By observing wellbeing evolve in the pink.

Refresh

Recharge

It would be nice if energy came in a can,
Yet it is the container and all that’s inside.
People find it refreshing indulging in drink
To help keep their firm bodies and minds in the pink.
But when negative thought forms are identified,
Then to rid the mind of them requires not a plan.

Thoughts consist of live energy. If they are ill,
They will drain the brain quickly, and toxins are made.
When bloodwork is examined, it’s evidenced there.
But to mind thoughts and feelings may lead to despair.
I cannot just stop thinking the thoughts that pervade
Every aspect of functioning free of my will.

If no plan nor a drink conquers thoughts negative,
What then is the solution? The firmware I run
Is the same everyone has. I can’t forcibly
Make it stop its confounding life successfully.
It is to my advantage to mess with it none.
It makes worse what is wrong, and it’s no way to live.

Separation is needed between me and all
That I’ve gathered through life, the body, and the mind.
All that indicates life, like my breath and heartbeat,
I must concentrate more on. The inner retreat
Where the self knows distinction is where I can find
Satisfying refreshment. It’s always my call.

Burned Out And Depressed

In the Heat of Stress

I can’t practice my presence because I’m burned out.
Around people I often find I get depressed.
I’m having difficulty and notice no change
Toward a better direction. Why am I so strange
That I can’t take direction nor can I digest
Simple teachings of spirit? I suffer in doubt.

The declarative statements that come from the mind
In an unending torrent are only concepts
That create a false story which I then believe.
If I identify with it I won’t achieve
The presence that eludes me. My frequent missteps
Indicate there is progress. My journey is kind.

Statements made can be tested by getting among
Other people, then practicing being aware
Of the body’s sensations and what it perceives
And each breath of fresh air that the body receives.
This is just the beginning of personal care
That will keep myself healthy and forever young.

Starting with the reality now in my face
That requires my attention, I must come awake
To the fact that I’m consciousness separate from
What appear to be problems I must overcome.
Can I look at the story and know that it’s fake
And become more enlightened in natural grace?

Minutes For Health

Everyone has a routine if conscious or not.
It can be one of good health or destructive ways.
Everything is the body. No such thing as mind
Nor as anything else is the body designed
As a separate entity. Worthy of praise,
The body and technology are the same plot.

It is for transformation that I’ve taken form.
As the ripples in time that I make offer change
In my present surroundings, they change parts of me
That I don’t know need changing. The body can see
On a cellular level the proper exchange
That is needed to maintain its optimum norm.

Spirit, body and mind coalesce, as it were,
Into unified consciousness. Activity,
Rest and healthy food will keep the whole self in shape.
Being mindful in selfhood is the best escape
From the ills that befall me so effectively.
When I am in alignment, good health does occur.

Grow Your Intelligence

The mind wants to believe things. It knows it cannot,
Because things worth believing are those of the heart.
What the intellect does is it helps us get by,
And the healthier it is, the less we will try.
If it tries to hold credence, it may fall apart
Or become quite the monkey and manic in thought.

The mind is made to know things it cannot believe,
Even though there’s a limit to what it can know.
It can know this is so even though there’s no proof
Because that comes through feeling – not being aloof
When expressing our thoughts as they leisurely flow.
The mind is good for focusing what we perceive.

Intellect is magnetic, induced to the brain
By the source of all knowing. Like leaves of the tree
Taking sunlight, the brain takes in all it can get.
As it gets what it needs, it will know no regret.
What we learn from our source is to know how to be
In the real world without fear and with little strain.

Can I Heal Myself?

I was once just a small thing – a fertilized cell
In my mother’s warm body. That’s how I became.
I have nothing to do with my being alive,
Nor with where to find love and how best to survive.
I and that which maintains me are one and the same.
I’ve a body that serves me and functions quite well.

It has innate capacity to itself heal.
It needs no outside influence to make it well.
The magnificent body has knowledge supreme.
It will manage my mismanaging to extreme.
Anything it may want, it has wisdom to tell
Its commanding assistant who knows how to feel.

If I eat a small piece of bread, it will become,
Within hours, a part of me. This is a feat
Most miraculous. I can put down the iPhone
And get back to the ‘I’ with some time left alone
So that I find contentment in soulful retreat
Wherein I may align to the beat of my drum.
