Seeing Clearly

Wisdom

I believe self-reliance is something that I
Meant to learn here but didn’t. The time that remains
I must use expeditiously. Had I been born
Under different circumstances would the scorn
That I feel for myself yield to me any gains?
This question is ridiculous and I know why.

My focus needs adjusting. The lessons I need
To learn are automatic. I need not depend
However on pure happenstance. I’m free to choose
The time schedule. There isn’t any time to lose.
Years remaining accentuate the subtrahend
From the total. I now have to pick up some speed.

Had I lived in an orphanage I would have been
Self-reliant in no time but that’s not the way
It turned out for me. I can learn from my mistakes.
I can also accept life’s many lucky breaks
But in doing so I’ll take care not to betray
My own purpose. I’m taught this again and again.

I can begin to see my life not just as a
Series of accidents, failures, and huge mistakes.
Everything that has ever happened plays a part
In the dharma of my life. I take this to heart
When I think of the past and all of its heartaches.
In a state of self-soothing I’m willing to stay.

Levels Of Consciousness

Colorful Thinking

Different levels of consciousness signify
Distinct programs within the mind. One’s behavior,
Beliefs, thoughts, attitudes, opinions, and world view
Manifest in the mind in relationship to
How conscious or unconscious one is. It’s for sure
That there are many levels. Need we wonder why?

Unconscious means delusional and ignorant
Of the truth of one’s being. Inequalities
And injustices occupy the ego mind,
Yet this is the awareness of all humankind.
How do we deal with our spiritual disease?
To reach the higher levels is damned important!

Each person who is born into this world starts at
A certain level of consciousness determined
By one’s entire karmic inheritance and the
Subjective experience of life. One can be
In a state of mind where one is never chagrined.
What could be more consciousness expanding than that?

Higher levels and the paths to reach them have been
Taught by spiritual masters for centuries.
The spiritual spectrum, as it’s understood,
Is from pure hell to perpetual Buddhahood.
In-between is only a matter of degrees.
So, our purpose here is to fully awaken.

Gratitude

Grateful Heart

Gratitude is the fresh feeling and attitude
Of appreciation or thankfulness for the
Benefits we’ve received or expect to receive.
All religious traditions preach it and believe
That its practice uplifts us spiritually.
It’s a wonderful virtue we can thus conclude.

As the Law of Attraction states that what we hold
In our minds tends to manifest, the feeling of
Gratitude opens the channels for more goodness.
More abundance comes to us the more we express
Gratitude for what we have, especially love.
Benefits of being grateful are manifold.

For the awakening spiritual seeker,
Practicing gratitude is the most important,
Beneficial, and powerful of intentions.
It’s a way of accessing higher dimensions
Of consciousness. If one needs a feeling transplant,
Gratitude puts the kibosh on the critiquer.

A major spiritual opportunity
For consciousness to evolve, our lives are a gift.
Treasure the opportunity with gratitude,
And your faith in humanity will be renewed.
Gratitude has the awesome power to uplift
Anyone, and it happens immediately.

Everything Happens For A Reason

Small Disaster

Every little or big thing that happens to you
Happens for some good reason. Every condition
Of your life is exactly the way it should be.
There are no accidents. You are absolutely
In the right place. You’re not in a bad position,
Even though it feels like there’s nothing you can do.

In each moment there are two things you can choose from.
You may take advantage of it or you may not.
It is a perfect universe. Nothing is wrong.
Accept the fact that you are right where you belong
Even though it may seem like you’re in a tough spot.
It may be hard to see a fortunate outcome.

Think of yourself as connected to everything
Rather than someone who is being victimized.
It’s all part of the perfection of existence.
You can make yours a wonderful experience
When in each moment some lesson is recognized.
You’ll be surprised by what your acceptance can bring.

Look for what’s in it for you and things will work out
For the better. You can get out in front of it
And learn from it. The way to your enlightenment
Is to know your connection in any event.
Circumstances get better if you will permit
Them to do so, which means getting rid of your doubt.

Take The Easiest Path

The Path Of Least Resistance

Our good feeling thoughts we need not learn to discern
And to trust. If you can find a good feeling place
And maintain it you cannot get into trouble.
Traveling on the road that has lots of rubble
Is a weary life absent of natural grace,
Yet there never can be a point of no return.

If you’re really in touch with the way you’re feeling
Then the feeling good place that you’ve found will allow
The release of resistance, tension, and worry.
You can give yourself credit for your willingly
Taking part in creating right here in your now
And your focusing on things that are appealing.

You’re doing much better than you think that you are.
Don’t fall for the temptation to jump far ahead
Of where you are in this moment. Feeling better,
Rather than being a pathetic begetter,
Is the goal. We all have at least one common thread.
A little bit of maintenance will take one far.

Let the finish line be, “This feels better to me
In this moment.”
There’s always an ‘on ramp’ ahead

To a much smoother highway. It’s a decision
That one makes notwithstanding acute derision
From people who are truly enlightenment dead.
Take the path that is easiest obviously.

The Easier Path

A Clear Choice

If I find a good feeling place and maintain it
I can’t get into trouble and find myself lost.
Many roads take me to the place I want to be
But some are difficult and not necessary.
Can I learn to remain positive at all cost?
I’ve been driving for this long. I can’t up and quit.

How do I learn to trust thoughts that may lead me to
Places of satisfaction? I’ll feel excitement.
My enthusiasm will be at maximum
And there will be no obstacles to overcome.
All the world is prepared to see what I present
As a well-traveled person in some point of view.

Am I really in touch with the way that I feel
And not covering up tension with lots of work?
I release the temptation to increase my speed.
That the ride be a bit smoother is what I need.
Can I learn to accept clarity as a perk
Of my being well balanced in all that is real?

There is always an on ramp to a smother road.
Let the finish line be, “That feels better,” that’s all.
Since I am always moving, I can repeat this.
Every moment that does not… I safely dismiss.
My feeling is my guidance should ever I stall.
A whole lot of blessings are upon me bestowed.

It Starts Now

Now Is All There Is

If the whole universe came to be in the past,
It was now then and still is the same as right now.
Every now is one moment wherein we partake
Of the fullness it offers. One’s soul comes awake
By this knowledge most fruitful. One need but allow
Everything that is present to forever last.

Transformation of human consciousness by means
That involve meditation are frustrated by
Believing that I by myself can bring about
States of ultimate knowing while harboring doubt.
Competition among others must signify
Shallowness in one’s motives and mundane routines.

All existence is still beginning presently.
Now trails off like the wake of a ship as it fades
Into what is called past and swiftly disappears.
I must honor the call to relinquish my fears,
Ill perceived mis-conclusions, and awful tirades,
And attend to what is now and ever shall be.

There’s no other beginning point. Right now is it!
Past and future are present and only exist
In the conscious awareness that only now holds.
This moment is the starting point where life unfolds.
No longer a poor stranger afraid and dismissed,
I am born in this moment as I recommit.

Ego Death

Melting The Mortal Idea

Predetermined is the exact moment of death.
I can’t leave this earth one single moment before
Nor an instant beyond the time I’m allotted.
What is not set how that I will end up dead.
I must know my surrender is the open door
Through which ego is deprived of its dying breath.

That which I know as myself and separate from
All else that must exist must be nonexistent.
It is only then that knowingness can come through.
To give up my person is a hard thing to do.
I survive by the providence of blind consent
Of forces of divinity. I must succumb.

My persona is not the essence and the source
Of affirmative consciousness given as me.
Rather it’s a well-constructed survival tool.
It behaves well mostly, but it can act the fool –
Something my true self tolerates to some degree,
For it knows not of judgment or will to enforce.

Ego death is the only death that can occur
Since the true self is selfless in every respect.
When it dies, the ego’s agony is but brief.
What is left after grieving is profound relief
From the weight of existence – the need to protect
My assumed personality and saboteur.

Inviting Presence And Building Good Karma

Keeping the Inner House Clean

The word ‘Karma’ means common sense to those who know
That we can live in harmony. It’s still a dream
From the fossilized hippie days when love and peace
Were appropriate discourse. The need to release
Ancient patterns that fill the mind to the extreme
With executive drama most clearly we show.

I find waiting a challenge. I can get upset
Due to ingrained impatience, origin unknown,
Yet somewhere in my past. There’s but one thing to do –
Concentrate on my breathing and take in the view.
Otherwise my discomfort will become full blown.
Reacting only causes me harm and regret.

That which had been annoying is a lucky break
From the baggage of karma I’ve carried for years.
All that I care to notice, as presence I find,
Is a blissful observance detached from the mind.
As my power of presence grows, gone are my fears
Of certain situations. I’ll just be awake!

People become reactive to worldwide events.
In so doing, more karma then accumulates
And continues the cycles of drama and fear.
Is the practice of presence something to hold dear?
Can one world be receptive to changing our fates
By erasing bad karma? I think it makes sense.

Anxiety And Illness

The Ongoing Struggle

Because they threaten life, they elicit concern.
Conditions preexisting within mortal genes
Turn the mind to a whirlpool of obsessive thought.
I become the victim of a sinister plot
If I focus on wondering what it all means.
The grotesqueness of illness is one lesson stern.

Nowhere is absoluteness among all the cells
Of the creatures at home here for but a brief while.
Substance must be substantial, but not for too long
Due to laws put in place to curse those who are strong
As well as all we weak ones. One could wear a smile,
As the Push Into Presence is what it compels.

Not to deny reality, yet not to dwell
On the thing with its name that’s connected to me
But detached from the true self, I stand well at ease
And relieved of the duty to pump up and please
Everyone with the notion that life is carefree
When reality is for many utter hell.

Most of suffering is a product of the mind.
That it wants to maintain a good story is known
To the quiet observer of all taking place.
When new freedom is found, I cannot but embrace
A transition of being wherein I am shown
What it is that I live for among humankind.

Transmission

…And The Word Is Made Spirit

Wise ones reveal their secrets to students intent
On achieving enlightenment. Knowledge received
Is a solid foundation upon which is built
A new world more awake and where less blood is spilt.
Those who seed the ideas of insight conceived
Have been long at experiencing our assent.

The illusion of descent is so hard to shake.
Yet there are proven techniques to help us along.
They involve a new mindset with heart open wide
To the peace that is possible if we decide
As a human community that all belong
And are equal in essence. So much is at stake.

‘When the pupil is ready, the Master appears.’
Many are the disguises that wisdom can take.
There’s uncanny assurance that light has occurred.
One magnificent sign is that spirit is stirred.
Life becomes a lot clearer and much less opaque.
Students who are not ready remain in their fears.

What matters is the Mastery – not the Master.
The art in the revealing is subtle yet strong.
The process is Transmission of beingness to
Those in search of solutions. Great is the breakthrough
That the soul will encounter in time not too long.
Is this not quite the way anyone would prefer?

A Generous Gift

Uncommon Generosity

A young yogi went out to seek guidance within.
As is customary, to the forest he went.
When he needed some food he went in town to beg
Then went back to the forest, with purpose not vague,
To continue his mantra consumed in content.
Well attuned and strong willed, there is but to begin.

As the night came he noticed a disabled fox.
He was well fed and healthy but had no front legs.
The man knew nature’s cruelty so did wonder why
She’d allow this sick creature to thrive and not die.
His concern was not too great. No questioning begs
A significant answer from out of the box.

Then the sound of a lion’s roar scared him from trance.
Quite astonished he was when he saw the large beast
Leave a big piece of meat for the lucky lame one.
He was deeply moved by what this lion had done.
He came to the conclusion that he too should feast
With no effort whatever. So, he took a chance.

After several days no food came to this man.
He became weak and withered. Then nearing his death,
An elder yogi saw him. They spoke for a bit.
“Why did you choose the lame fox? That doesn’t seem fit.
Be the generous lion ‘til your dying breath.
Don’t resign to be helpless. Do all that you can!”

Wisdom, Meditation And Bliss

TheMagicRealist.com

Mysticism means exploration into things
That I have not the knowledge of – so far, so good.
Everything that I know not, I can’t understand.
If I find one with wisdom and peacefulness grand,
Is that person anointed with true guruhood?
Is what I know that others don’t worthy of wings?

If I lost all my assets and felt quite depressed
My mind would try to trick me into true demise.
But if I held my breath for two minutes, I’m sure
That abundantly free air would act as the cure
For my habit of teetering on compromise
Of my spirit. Sometimes, it’s adversely expressed.

 The most sophisticated machinery here,
The unique human body is of pure design.
Yet it can be encumbered with high maintenance.
That appears true for most folks and seems to make sense.
Living totally means that there is no deadline
When it comes to engaging all that we hold dear.
